Colombia Beat Uzbekistan 3-1 in World Cup Debut for Asian Side

Colombia opened its 2026 World Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory over debutants Uzbekistan in a Group K match at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. Daniel Muñoz gave Colombia a first-half lead before Abbosbek Fayzullaev equalised for Uzbekistan, scoring the country’s first-ever goal at a World Cup.

Luis Díaz restored Colombia’s advantage early in the second half, and substitute Jáminton Campaz sealed the win with a stoppage-time header. The match was physical from the outset, with Colombia enjoying more possession and creating the clearer chances, while Uzbekistan showed enough attacking intent to briefly level the score.

The result put Colombia top of Group K after the opening round of matches. Uzbekistan, appearing at a World Cup for the first time, will next face Portugal, while Colombia are set to meet the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Group K also includes Portugal and DR Congo, who had earlier drawn 1-1. Uzbekistan’s first World Cup outing ended in defeat, but the team still made history through Fayzullaev’s goal, which came after a save from Camilo Vargas and a rebound in the box.
