A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 95 near State Road 200 in Nassau County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash caused significant traffic backups on northbound I-95 for hours.
According to the crash report, the motorcycle was traveling northbound on I-95 when it struck the rear of a van. The impact caused the motorcycle to lose control and overturn. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a guardrail on the inside shoulder.
Nassau County Fire Rescue pronounced the rider dead at the scene. The driver of the van, an 81-year-old man from Jupiter, Florida, and his 78-year-old female passenger, also from Jupiter, were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased motorcyclist pending notification of next of kin.
