Detective Precure Film Debuts September 18 with Voice Cast Collaboration

The theatrical film "Detective Precure: The Mysterious Garden and Two Secrets" premiered on September 18, 2026, marking a significant entry in the long-running Precure franchise. The film features voice actress Chiga Akari as the protagonist Akechi Anna (Cure Answer) and Kito Akari as Karin, a central character whose relationship with Cure Answer forms the emotional core of the story.

For Kito, a lifelong Precure fan who grew up watching the series from its 2004 debut, this marks her first appearance in the franchise. She has spoken of her emotional connection to the material, recalling her childhood experience of watching "Yes! Precure 5" in theaters with a Miracle Light. The film's script includes detailed stage directions for Karin's characterization, allowing Kito to layer the character with subtle emotional vulnerabilities—depicting a girl who appears cheerful outwardly while being inwardly sensitive to minor slights and emotional wounds.

Chiga and Kito's collaboration was their first working together. Chiga had previously listened to Kito's radio broadcasts during her own formative years as a voice acting student, and meeting her co-star in person was meaningful to her. The two noted that they formed a strong professional rapport on set, with Chiga describing how Kito's emotionally grounded performance of Karin created dialogue scenes that felt genuinely impactful.

The film's plot centers on the mysterious "Impossible Garden," where the protagonist encounters Karin and investigates a phenomenon involving "Damadama"—creatures that mark objects with an X, rendering them immobile or unusable. The story explores themes of independent thought and self-reliance, core concepts in the Detective Precure television series. According to producers, the narrative deliberately examines how characters' well-intentioned decisions and beliefs, when pursued individually, can lead to conflict—showing that disagreement need not arise from moral wrongdoing.

The ensemble cast includes voice actors from parallel Precure series ("Idol Precure" and "Wonderful Precure"), guest voice actors Shingo Shiraishi and Natsuki Uchiyama, and extensive support from established franchise regulars. The film was directed by Hanako Ueda, with character design by Emiko Miyamoto and music by Eri Fukazawa and Misaki Mase. The production team emphasized creating a narrative that would resonate with both children and adults through emotionally grounded storytelling.
