Jakarta police have deployed 4,131 combined personnel to secure public demonstrations planned for central and southern Jakarta on June 18, 2026. The demonstrations are expected to involve students and civil society groups expressing their views at multiple locations throughout the city.
According to Metro Jaya Police Public Relations Head Kombes Budi Hermanto, personnel will be stationed at key points including the Monas monument area, Bundaran HI/Dukuh Atas intersection, the MPR/DPR building, and the Ministry of Manpower building. The deployment comprises 2,359 personnel from Metro Jaya Police, 372 from various police precincts, and 1,400 from supporting agencies including 200 TNI military personnel, 900 Korbrimob personnel, and 300 Korsabhara personnel.
Police have emphasized a three-tiered security approach combining preventive measures, proactive deployment, and law enforcement response if violations occur. Hermanto stressed that all personnel have been instructed to follow proper procedures, remain impartial, and prioritize the safety of civilians, demonstrators, and officers. The approach emphasizes persuasive and humanitarian engagement with protesters.
Traffic management will be conducted dynamically based on ground conditions, and authorities have advised the public to avoid demonstration areas to prevent congestion. Police have urged demonstrators to conduct their activities peacefully, avoid vandalism or anarchic behavior, and respect the rights of other citizens. Public compliance with officer instructions at the scene is being requested to ensure all activities proceed safely and orderly.
Why This Matters
This deployment demonstrates Jakarta's institutional capacity to manage large-scale civil demonstrations while maintaining public order. For residents and businesses, it signals advance notice of potential traffic disruptions and restricted access to central locations, enabling better planning. For civil society, it reflects police commitment to protecting protest rights through a humanitarian approach rather than heavy-handed enforcement. Understanding the scale and methodology of security measures helps the public navigate the city safely and engage with authorities constructively.
