Kusriyati, a 65-year-old female parking attendant in Brebes, Central Java, foiled an attempted theft of Rp 3.6 billion (approximately US$240,000) from a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vehicle on Monday, June 15, 2026. The incident occurred around 3:00 PM local time on Jalan Ahmad Yani, Brebes, when the victim, Kliwon Alwawan, had just withdrawn the cash from a bank.
According to Kusriyati, she noticed suspicious activity and intervened, successfully preventing the suspects from stealing the money. After Alwawan confirmed his cash was safe, he offered Kusriyati a reward of Rp 100,000 (roughly US$6.70) as a token of gratitude. The parking attendant, who did not expect any compensation, then split the reward equally among four people, including two fellow parking attendants and a motorcycle taxi driver.
"I was given Rp 100,000 by the owner. Then I divided it among four of us: me, two parking colleagues, and a motorcycle taxi driver. Each got Rp 25,000," Kusriyati said on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. She emphasized that she did not ask for the money but accepted it as a gesture of thanks. The quick action by Kusriyati and her colleagues helped secure the funds and prevent what could have been a major loss for the victim.
