Tate Brothers Arrested in Miami, Face 59 UK Charges Including Rape and Trafficking
Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami on July 18, 2026, on a UK extradition request and now face 59 combined charges including rape, sex trafficking, and child exploitation offenses allegedly committed between 2010 and 2017 involving seven victims. Their attorney claims the charges are politically motivated and vows to fight extradition. A federal judge will determine whether extradition conditions are met, with the final decision resting with the U.S. Secretary of State.

Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested by U.S. Marshals in Miami on Saturday, July 18, 2026, following an extradition request from the United Kingdom. The brothers now face a combined 59 criminal charges in the U.K., including rape, sex trafficking, assault, and offenses related to indecent images of children. The charges stem from alleged crimes committed between July 2010 and August 2017 and involve seven alleged victims.
Andrew Tate, 39, faces 42 total charges, including seven additional counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault, and 19 charges relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate, 38, faces 17 total charges, including two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and three counts of arranging or facilitating sex trafficking. These new charges were brought after Bedfordshire Police submitted additional evidence. The brothers had already faced 21 charges announced in May 2026.
The arrest occurred just before Andrew Tate was set to cohost a bareknuckle boxing event in Miami. The brothers, dual U.S.-British citizens who moved to Romania in 2016, were previously arrested there in 2022 on trafficking and rape charges, but that case did not proceed due to legal and procedural irregularities. They were allowed to leave Romania in February 2025 and subsequently flew to Florida on a private jet.
Their attorney, Joseph McBride, stated the brothers are innocent and argued the charges are politically motivated. He expressed confidence the extradition request would be denied and suggested the timing of the arrest—following a congressional visit to Washington—indicated political pressure. McBride stated the brothers "have never done nothing wrong" and should not be extradited for crimes they did not commit.
A federal judge will now determine whether the extradition request meets legal requirements under the U.S.-UK extradition treaty, which requires a showing of "reasonable basis" for the charges. Extradition experts note the process is difficult to contest and could take years if appealed. The final extradition decision rests with the U.S. Secretary of State. The brothers remain in federal custody and appeared before a federal magistrate in Miami on Monday, July 20, in prison uniforms and handcuffs.
Why This Matters
The arrest triggers a formal U.S.–U.K. extradition proceeding that will test enforcement of transnational sex trafficking and child exploitation charges. If extradition is granted, it may establish precedent for prosecuting allegations spanning 2010–2017 under updated legal frameworks. The case affects U.S. custody policy for dual nationals and may influence ongoing investigations into alleged trafficking networks. Federal court timelines and Secretary of State review could extend over years; outcome will determine whether charges proceed in U.K. courts or are contested in U.S. proceedings.
