FC Barcelona confirmed on October 18 that defenders Eric García and Jules Koundé will miss the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, due to injuries sustained in Saturday's 5-2 La Liga victory over Real Betis.
García suffered a muscle injury to the rectus femoris in his right thigh and faces three to four weeks of recovery time. The Spanish defender will miss not only the PSG clash but also the Clásico against Real Madrid on October 25, as well as upcoming fixtures against Alavés and Aston Villa during the international break. In a social media post, García expressed his frustration at the timing: "I feel angry and sad at not being able to be there, but I will do my utmost to come back as soon as possible."
Koundé, the French defender, sustained a left ankle sprain and is ruled out of the PSG match. However, his availability for the Real Madrid clash remains uncertain and will depend on his recovery progress. Gerard Martín, who came off at halftime against Betis with bruising, is expected to be available for the PSG fixture.
The twin absences create a defensive crisis for coach Hansi Flick ahead of what Barcelona considers the most decisive week of their season. With Andreas Christensen also unavailable due to a thigh injury, Pau Cubarsí emerges as the only fully fit centre-back. Flick has multiple options to address the backline: Cubarsí at centre-back alongside either Gerard Martín or midfielder Rodri (who played centre-back during Luis Enrique's tenure at the club); and full-back positions likely to be filled by João Cancelo, Xavi Espart, or Alejandro Balde. Barcelona enters the PSG match having won all 11 of their fixtures in all competitions this season.

Why This Matters
Barcelona faces PSG on October 20 with its top two centre-backs unavailable; García (3–4 weeks out) also misses the October 25 Real Madrid fixture. With Andreas Christensen injured, coach Hansi Flick has only Pau Cubarsí fully fit at centre-back, forcing tactical reshuffles involving full-backs or midfielders in defensive roles. Barcelona enters the match 11–0 across all competitions; the defensive disruption directly affects selection options and injury recovery timeline through November, with competitive implications for both domestic and European fixtures.
