Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced a minor update to its kei-class electric vehicle, the eK Cross EV, set for release in Japan on June 25, 2026. The updated model features a redesigned exterior, new color options, and the addition of an accessory power outlet that allows owners to use the car's battery to power household appliances.
The refreshed eK Cross EV will be available in three trims: the G Business Package, starting at 2,446,400 yen; the G grade at 2,662,000 yen; and the top-tier P grade at 3,214,200 yen, all including 10% consumption tax. The vehicle qualifies for a national clean-energy vehicle subsidy of 574,000 yen under the fiscal 2025 supplementary budget, reducing the effective starting price to approximately 1.87 million yen after the subsidy. Additional regional subsidies may further lower the cost.
Exterior updates include a seamless front fascia with a continuous shape, body-colored wheel arches and side sills for a softer, more unified look, and an LED-illuminated front grille that enhances the car's modern appearance. The color palette has been expanded to 11 options, including new two-tone and monotone shades designed to evoke cleanliness and nature.
Inside, the most notable addition is an accessory power outlet (AC100V, up to 1,500W) located beneath the instrument panel, enabling drivers to power electronics during daily use, outdoor activities, or emergencies. The P trim gains additional USB ports (two Type-C and one Type-A) for device charging, while the G trim now comes standard with a heated steering wheel and heated front seats (previously exclusive to the P trim). A new rear-seat alert system reminds drivers to check for passengers or belongings left in the back before exiting.
The eK Cross EV retains its 20kWh battery and a WLTC-rated range of 180km, which Mitsubishi says covers the daily driving needs of the majority of kei-car and compact-car users, who typically drive less than 50km per day.
Why This Matters
For electric vehicle buyers in Japan, especially those interested in kei-class EVs, this refresh adds practical features like a 1,500W power outlet for outdoor or emergency use, while maintaining affordability through national subsidies. The expanded standard equipment (heated steering wheel, seats) and new safety alert system improve daily usability without raising entry-level prices significantly. Prospective buyers should consider the June 25 launch date and check regional subsidies to maximize savings.
