China Eastern Airlines Resumes Shanghai-Stockholm Direct Flights After Six-Year Hiatus

China Eastern Airlines has officially resumed direct flights between Shanghai and Stockholm after a six-year suspension, with the inaugural service launching on Monday evening. An Airbus A330 aircraft from Shanghai Pudong International Airport landed at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, carrying over 250 passengers on the return leg to Shanghai. The route will operate three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The resumption was marked by a ceremony at Stockholm Arlanda Airport attended by representatives from China Eastern Airlines and Swedavia Airports, the Swedish state-owned airport operator. Passengers received commemorative gifts including snacks and stationery to celebrate the restoration of the service. Elizabeth Axtelius, director of aviation business at Swedavia Airports, emphasized that the route's return had been long awaited in Sweden and described it as being of great significance.

Official statements highlight the route's expected benefits for both nations. The direct service is anticipated to reduce transit times and improve travel convenience for passengers between China and Sweden. Beyond travel efficiency, officials expect the resumed flights to facilitate business development, strengthen tourism links, and enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Sweden, as well as between China and Europe more broadly. The restoration of this connection also supports trade cooperation between the two countries.
