Pakistan's Military Reports 40,348 Operations, 2,084 Terrorists Killed in 2026
Pakistan's military conducted 40,348 intelligence-based operations in 2026, killing 2,084 verified terrorists while suffering 819 Pakistani casualties. The majority of operations—over 31,000—took place in Balochistan, where military officials disputed claims of deteriorating security, attributing instability to terrorism, elitism, and corruption rather than state collapse.
Quick Facts
- 40,348 intelligence-based operations conducted across Pakistan
- 2,084 verified terrorists killed
- 3,145 terrorism-related incidents recorded
- 819 Pakistanis killed in terrorism incidents
- 28 suicide bombing incidents reported

Pakistan's security forces conducted 40,348 intelligence-based operations across the country in 2026, with the majority—31,080 operations—concentrated in Balochistan, according to Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), who announced the figures at a press briefing on July 31.
The operations involved the armed forces, police, civil armed forces, and intelligence agencies. During this period, security forces killed 2,084 verified terrorists, averaging approximately 10 per day—described by the military as the highest daily average on record. However, 3,145 terrorism-related incidents were recorded nationally, with 1,971 occurring in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,148 in Balochistan, and 26 elsewhere.
The human toll of the conflict was significant: 819 Pakistanis were killed in terrorism-related incidents, comprising 303 military personnel, 194 law enforcement officials, and 322 civilians. The military also reported 28 suicide bombing incidents, noting that most perpetrators were Afghan nationals. Chaudhry stated that the ratio of terrorists killed to security personnel lost has improved, with security forces eliminating 2.5 terrorists for each martyr in 2026, compared to 2 for 1 in 2025.
Addressing Balochistan specifically, Chaudhry stated that "a negative perception is being created" about the province's security situation, attributing instability to terrorism, elitism, and tribal systems rather than fundamental state failure. He criticized certain Baloch leaders for seeking appeasement and noted that smuggling and exploitation of natural resources were intertwined with security challenges. The military official ruled out any negotiations with terrorist groups, declaring: "Either they will surrender or we will eradicate them."
Chaudhry also outlined his vision of a "hard state," defining it not as military rule but as a state where the Constitution and rule of law apply equally to all citizens without exception. He emphasized that Pakistan must prioritize national unity over ethnic politics and that lasting stability requires strict adherence to constitutional governance.
Why This Matters
Pakistan's military reported its highest daily terrorism casualty rate (approximately 10 per day) but also suffered 819 Pakistani deaths in 2026. The concentration of 77% of operations in Balochistan, combined with 1,148 terrorism incidents there, indicates a sustained security engagement in a province with complex separatist and organized crime dynamics. Military claims of a 2.5-to-1 kill ratio versus 2-to-1 in 2025 carry implications for tactical effectiveness assessment and resource allocation in the ongoing counterterrorism campaign. International stakeholders monitoring South Asian stability will track whether these metrics reflect operational capacity or operational claims.
