Male body found on Kyoto beach; may be missing 22-year-old swimmer

On the morning of August 11, a male body was discovered on a beach in Amino, Kyoto Prefecture. At approximately 7 a.m., a passerby found the body floating near the shore at Kotohikihama beach in Kyoto's Kyotango City and alerted nearby firefighters. The body was found in a face-down position and was confirmed dead at the scene.

The deceased was estimated to be between 20 and 40 years old and was wearing a black long-sleeved rash guard, shorts, a black goggle mask with gold trim, and navy marine shoes on the right foot. No notable external injuries were observed. The body was discovered during a search operation that had been underway since August 9.

On August 9, a 22-year-old company employee from Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, went missing while swimming at a nearby beach. The swimming area was declared off-limits beginning around noon on August 9. Police are investigating the relationship between the discovered body and the missing man, noting that the clothing matches the description of what the missing person was wearing. Kyoto Prefectural Police are continuing to confirm the identity of the deceased and investigating the cause of death.
