S&P500 rises sharply on US-Iran ceasefire deal, risk-on mood prevails

Stock markets rallied on Monday, June 15, 2026, as the United States and Iran reached a memorandum of understanding to end hostilities, sparking a broad risk-on sentiment. The S&P 500 closed at 7,554.29, up 122.83 points or 1.65%, marking a third consecutive day of gains. All major indices advanced, with technology and AI-related stocks leading the charge while defensive sectors lagged as oil prices fell.

The rally was fueled by optimism over the US-Iran deal, which traders interpreted as reducing geopolitical risks. Ten of the 11 S&P 500 sectors finished higher. Information technology surged 3.39%, communication services gained 2.42%, and consumer discretionary rose 1.91%. Energy was the worst performer, dropping 3.58%, followed by real estate (-0.90%) and healthcare (-0.70%).
