Obama expressed hope that the newly opened center would affirm "how precious our democracy truly is."

Michelle Obama also addressed the crowd, praising her husband's optimism, brilliance, and moral courage. She added a pointed statement: "no one, I mean no one, has the right to judge who's American enough."
