Chicago White Sox center fielder Everson Pereira was placed on the seven-day injured list Thursday due to a concussion suffered after colliding with the outfield wall at Yankee Stadium. The 25-year-old Venezuelan player chased a fly ball hit by Ben Rice in the seventh inning of Wednesday's 10-5 loss to the Yankees, made the catch while leaping, but struck his face against the fence near the 399-foot marker in front of the visiting bullpen. Pereira remained on the ground for several minutes before leaving the field and was placed under concussion protocol.
White Sox manager Will Venable provided an update before Thursday's game, saying Pereira was "better today, but obviously sore from last night; still in good spirits and doing well." This marks another setback for the young outfielder, who had only recently returned to action after missing six weeks with a pectoral strain earlier in the season. Pereira had appeared in 21 games, batting .232 with three home runs and seven RBIs.
To fill the void, the White Sox called up Dominican outfielder Junior Perez from their Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte and inserted him as the starting left fielder. Perez, acquired from the Oakland Athletics on May 16, had been batting .230 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 20 games with Charlotte. Perez's debut marked a significant milestone for the White Sox, becoming the 13th player to debut with the team this season, tying the major league record for most debuts before the All-Star break set by the 1944 Cincinnati Reds.

Why This Matters
Pereira's concussion adds to the White Sox's injury woes at a critical point in the season, forcing them to further deplete their roster by elevating a minor-league player with limited major-league experience. The 13th debut milestone highlights the team's struggles with player availability and depth, raising concerns about their competitive viability for the remainder of the season.
