China calls for global vigilance against Japan's rise of neo-militarism

BEIJING — China has urged the international community to remain highly vigilant against the resurgence of neo-militarism in Japan and to take firm measures to curb it, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun, speaking at a regular press briefing in response to a query, accused Japan of accelerating its remilitarization efforts. He highlighted what he described as Japan's development of powerful intermediate and long-range offensive weapons, easing of restrictions on the export of lethal arms, and expanding the operational scope of its Self-Defense Forces.

Guo further stated that Japan is building a combat-ready operational system and engaging in frequent military interactions with countries outside the region. He argued that these actions represent an attempt by Japan to break free from the constraints of its pacifist Constitution, international law, and its long-standing "exclusively defense-oriented" principle.

According to Guo, such moves challenge the postwar international order. While Japan portrays itself as a "peace-loving country," its actions point in the opposite direction. He described the emergence of neo-militarism in Japan as "malevolent" and a threat to regional peace and stability.

The spokesperson called on the international community to take resolute moves to counter this trend and maintain stability in the region.
