Ukrainian Drones Attack Russian Railway Infrastructure in Bryansk Region

Ukrainian drone attacks on the evening of September 27 and early morning of September 28 damaged railway infrastructure across Russia's Bryansk and Kaluga regions, causing temporary disruptions to train services. According to regional acting governor Yegor Kovalchuk, a drone strike on the Dyatkovo-Lyudinovo section caused partial collapse of a railway bridge, resulting in 10 wagons derailing. In the Unechsky district, 18 empty open wagons derailed following a separate attack. A third attack damaged railway tracks in the Navlinsky district, though train services there continued without disruption. No casualties were reported across any of the three attack sites.

The Moscow Railway suspended train traffic on the Unecha-Zlynka and Lyudinovo-1-Dyatkovo sections as a result of the attacks. The railway company organized alternative transportation during repairs, including bus services for affected passengers. Train 85 from Moscow to Novozybkov was rerouted through Pochepe station with compensatory bus service to final destinations, while Train 489 from Anapa to Minsk was sent via an alternative route. Local commuter trains to Unecha station continued normal operations.

Russia's Defense Ministry reported that it intercepted and destroyed 254 Ukrainian drones across Russian regions and over the Black Sea and Sea of Azov overnight. The attack on Bryansk railway infrastructure follows a pattern of drone strikes targeting transportation networks in the region. According to acting governor Kovalchuk, railway infrastructure in Bryansk had been subject to repeated Ukrainian drone attacks in the preceding week, including damage to tracks in the Unechsky district on September 26 and an attack on Klintsy railway station. The Russian military has acknowledged conducting strikes on Ukrainian railway infrastructure as part of its stated strategy to disrupt logistics capabilities.
