The city of Bandung experienced rolling blackouts on Thursday afternoon, June 18, 2026, as state utility company PLN implemented load shedding to maintain grid stability. The outages, scheduled from 2:15 PM to 4:15 PM local time, affected numerous areas across the city, including Jalan KH Hasan Mustopa, Terminal Cicaheum, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Antapani Lama, Jalan Sukabegja, Jalan Babakan Andir, Jalan Cimuncang-Clove Garden Hotel, Jalan Awiligar Raya, and several streets in the Ligar and Cigadung neighborhoods. The measure was taken following technical operational constraints at a power plant that reduced generation capacity.
PLN Unit Induk Distribusi Jawa Barat communications manager Nurmalitasari confirmed the situation in an official statement received by detikJabar. "PLN is currently deploying all resources to maintain the reliability of the electricity system following technical operational constraints at a power plant that have caused a reduction in electricity supply capacity," she said. The company emphasized that the load management is being carried out in a limited manner to prevent the disruption from spreading further.
"To maintain the stability and reliability of the electricity system, PLN is conducting limited load management in the affected areas and continuously working to accelerate the recovery of power plant operating conditions so that electricity supply can return to normal," Nurmalitasari explained. PLN apologized to affected residents and committed to providing updates through official communication channels as the situation develops.
The rolling blackouts come as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in Indonesia's electricity infrastructure, where technical issues can quickly lead to widespread disruptions. PLN has stated it is prioritizing the restoration of full generation capacity to minimize further inconvenience to customers in Bandung.
