Washington Sundar ruled out of third England ODI with hamstring injury; Harsh Dubey called up

India's all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the third and final ODI against England at Lord's on July 19 due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the second match in Cardiff on July 16. The injury occurred while Sundar was batting in the 33rd over, and despite immediate treatment and strapping, he was unable to continue batting. He scored 2 runs before being dismissed and did not field during England's chase.

Sundar, who scored an unbeaten 52 runs in the first ODI at Edgbaston to help India secure a 6-wicket victory, will undergo scans and consult medical specialists to determine the extent of the injury. Recovery is expected to take between two and four weeks. The BCCI has named left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Harsh Dubey as Sundar's replacement in the squad. Dubey made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in June 2026, taking 3 wickets for 47 runs in Dharamsala and has played two ODIs with 4 wickets to his name.

Sundar's absence marks a significant setback for India heading into the series decider at Lord's, where the ODI series is currently tied 1-1. India won the first match by 6 wickets at Edgbaston, but England leveled the series with a 4-wicket victory in Cardiff. The decision on whether Dubey will feature in the Playing XI or if legspinner Kuldeep Yadav will be included remains open. India's squad already includes Axar Patel, who plays a similar spin-bowling all-rounder role and was Player of the Match in the first ODI.

The injury compounds India's allrounder depth issues, as Hardik Pandya remains unavailable from the tour due to an IPL injury, while Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out before the series began due to a quadriceps issue sustained during training for the Afghanistan series.
