Thunder's Jalen Williams stretchered off with serious leg injury in win over Clippers

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams suffered a serious left leg injury late in the fourth quarter of the team's 108-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night. With 1 minute 14 seconds remaining, Williams drove to the basket and landed awkwardly; his left leg buckled beneath him and his foot bent at an unnatural angle. He was stretchered off the court with towels covering his injured leg, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd and giving a thumbs-up gesture as he departed.

The injury has left Williams' availability highly uncertain. Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault indicated the team would receive medical updates on Monday, though no formal diagnosis was immediately provided. The incident prompted visible emotional reactions from teammates and opponents alike, with players from both teams appearing shocked.

Williams, 25, is the Thunder's second-best player behind two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He was fully healthy at the start of the 2026-27 season after an injury-plagued 2025-26 campaign in which he played only 33 regular-season games. Despite the injury setback, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points and spoke about his teammate with tears, saying "I just feel bad for him" and expressing confidence that "he'll be back better than ever."

The Thunder moved to 3-0 on the season but the victory came at significant cost. Guard Cason Wallace (left shoulder soreness) and forward Jaylin Williams (right wrist soreness) also left the game early. Williams was instrumental in Oklahoma City's 2025 championship campaign and his absence represents a major blow to the team's title aspirations, as the Thunder entered the season as title favourites.
