Musetti praises Alcaraz's aesthetic tennis style over Sinner's in recent interview

Lorenzo Musetti, the world's 15th-ranked tennis player, has weighed in on the ongoing debate between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, two players who have dominated professional tennis in recent years. In an interview with Italy's L'Officiel Italia, Musetti highlighted the contrasting strengths of both players while expressing his preference for Alcaraz's overall style. "The most beautiful and perhaps most complete tennis is Alcaraz's," Musetti stated. "I think it is the most contemporary. Sinner is impressive, almost perfect due to his coldness, mental clarity and constantly maintaining an incredible level. But in terms of aesthetics and beauty of play, I would say Alcaraz."

Sinner currently holds the world's top ranking, while Alcaraz sits in second place. The two have dominated the Grand Slam circuit, winning nine consecutive tournaments between them before Roland Garros ended that streak. Musetti acknowledged both players' exceptional abilities, saying "When they are at their best, they are the two players who express the best tennis of the moment." His comments suggest that while Sinner excels through technical precision and mental composure, Alcaraz's game offers greater aesthetic appeal and diversity in style.

Musetti also reflected on pivotal moments in his own career during the interview. He highlighted his victory over Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Monte Carlo Masters when Djokovic held the world number one ranking, describing it as particularly meaningful. Conversely, he recalled his most painful defeat, which occurred at this year's Australian Open when he retired while leading two sets to zero against Djokovic. Currently recovering from physical injuries that have hampered his season, Musetti is targeting a return to optimal condition for Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season. Meanwhile, Alcaraz is also sidelined due to a wrist injury and will miss Wimbledon.
