Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming sci-fi thriller 'The Last House,' starring Oscar nominee Wagner Moura and Greta Lee. The film follows a family who find themselves suddenly trapped inside their home with no means of escape, as a mysterious and growing threat keeps them confined. As days turn into weeks and then years, the family must confront dwindling resources, psychological strain, and the terrifying question of what is keeping them locked in.
Directed by Louis Leterrier ('Now You See Me,' 'Lupin'), the film explores survival on both physical and psychological levels. Leterrier describes the experience as a test of resilience and understanding, forcing audiences to ponder how they would cope in similar circumstances. The story follows Jason (Moura) and Ann (Lee) as they struggle to explain their predicament to their children, Ruth and Graham, played at different ages by Riley Chung, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, Emma Ho, and Gabriel Barbosa.
To ensure authenticity, the filmmakers partnered with renowned survival consultant Megan Hine, who helped devise innovative and believable methods for the family to endure their long isolation. Production designer Kevin Jenkins built a home that evolves and ages alongside the characters, with household items deteriorating realistically over time. The first half of the film was shot on 35 mm film, and the crew relied heavily on practical effects to create a relatable, claustrophobic atmosphere.
Greta Lee expressed her excitement about the project, noting her lifelong love for survivalist stories with a twist. Wagner Moura added that he believes audiences will recognize themselves in the film, emphasizing universal themes of family, protection, love, and conflict. 'The Last House' slams its doors on August 7, exclusively on Netflix.
