Ravens place Jackson, Huntley on injured reserve; start rookie Fagnano

The Baltimore Ravens placed both quarterback Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley on injured reserve Thursday ahead of their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving the team to start undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano.

Jackson suffered a right thumb injury on the first offensive play of Sunday's loss to the Buffalo Bills and is scheduled for surgery. He will miss a minimum of four games but could miss the remainder of the season, though Head Coach Jesse Minter said the timeline remains uncertain pending the surgery outcome. Huntley, who entered the game after Jackson's injury, suffered a season-ending turf toe injury in the first half and will not return this season. Huntley's injury ended his chance at significant playing time after signing a two-year, $5 million contract extension with the Ravens in March that could reach $11 million with incentives.

With both top quarterbacks sidelined, the Ravens signed quarterback Austin Reed to the 53-man roster on Thursday and Kedon Slovis off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad earlier in the week. Slovis, a 25-year-old undrafted former USC quarterback, appeared in two games with Arizona last season with limited action. Reed spent the preseason with Baltimore. Combined, the three active quarterbacks on the roster—Fagnano, Reed, and Slovis—have accumulated 89 passing yards and zero touchdowns in their NFL careers.

Fagnano will make his first career start Thursday after also appearing in relief against Buffalo, though he is managing an ankle injury. The Ravens are reportedly finalizing a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to acquire veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who would not be available until the Nov. 16 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team also elevated kicker Jake Moody and linebacker Adisa Isaac from the practice squad for Thursday's game.
