China Hosts Fourth Supply Chain Expo Amid Global Protectionism and Geopolitical Tensions

China's fourth annual International Supply Chain Expo opened in Beijing on June 22, 2026, bringing together 676 companies and institutions from 85 countries, regions and international organizations to address challenges facing global supply chains. Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, a senior member of the Communist Party's Standing Committee, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing that stable global industrial and supply chain operations require concerted efforts from all countries. Ding highlighted China's role as a responsible major power, leveraging its complete industrial system and vast domestic market to support global economic stability.

The expo occurs amid intensifying geopolitical conflicts and rising protectionism that have disrupted supply chains across logistics, energy, chemicals, industrial raw materials and agriculture sectors. International organizations including the United Nations and the OECD have lowered global economic growth forecasts, citing geopolitical tensions as a key factor. The disruptions have resulted in increased costs, delivery delays and localized supply shortages, adding pressure to an already fragile global economy.

Ding called on all nations to enhance mutual trust, treat supply chains as a global public good, maintain unimpeded trade flows, and uphold true multilateralism. He stressed the importance of advancing integrated development so that scientific and technological innovation benefits more countries and peoples globally. The vice premier also underscored the need for cooperative resource sharing and mutually beneficial collaboration on key mineral products.

The event features six industrial chain exhibition areas plus a dedicated Supply Chain Service Exhibition Area, with a new artificial intelligence section attracting industry leaders including NVIDIA, Intel, Qualcomm and Alibaba. Foreign exhibitors account for 36.5% of participants, while over 65% are Fortune Global 500 enterprises and industry leaders. The expo runs through June 26 and hosts more than 60 business exchange activities, with over 160 new product and technology debuts scheduled.

China's consistent hosting of the world's first national-level supply chain expo demonstrates its commitment to bolstering supply chain resilience and upholding the multilateral trading system. Despite mounting geopolitical tensions, the growing foreign company participation suggests business appetite for new partnerships and opportunities. China's significance as a central manufacturing and supply chain hub has grown substantially, supported by its ecosystem, domestic market, skilled workforce and expanding institutional openness, positioning it as an anchor of stability for global supply chains.
