Andhra Pradesh Issues Guidelines for Beach Shacks to Boost Coastal Tourism

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a significant initiative to develop coastal tourism by establishing beach shacks in 12 districts across the state. Modelled after Goa's popular beach culture, the shacks will be set up in locations identified by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC). The state Excise Department has issued official guidelines detailing the procedures for setting up, licensing, and operating these tourism centres, which aim to attract visitors, enhance facilities along the coastline, and create local employment opportunities.

Under the pilot programme, the selected beach shacks will operate for an initial one-year period, during which their performance, visitor response, and economic benefits will be evaluated. Based on the findings, the government may consider expanding the initiative to other coastal areas in the state. The guidelines specify that the sale of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and imported alcohol will not be permitted at these shacks, clarifying the scope of permitted activities.

The Andhra Pradesh government expects the decision to significantly promote the tourism sector and drive coastal development. Officials believe the shacks will provide a better experience for visitors while opening new avenues in the tourism industry. The initiative reflects the state's broader strategy to modernise tourism infrastructure and boost the local economy along its coastline.
