Chicago White Sox center fielder Everson Pereira was placed on the seven-day injured list with a concussion Thursday, one day after a collision with the outfield fence at Yankee Stadium. The incident occurred in the seventh inning of Wednesday's 10-5 loss to the Yankees, when Pereira tracked down Ben Rice's fly ball and crashed into the left-center field fence near the 399-foot sign in front of the visiting bullpen. He made a leaping catch but his face struck the fence upon impact. Pereira remained on the field for several minutes before departing and was subsequently placed in concussion protocol.
White Sox manager Will Venable provided an update on Pereira's condition before Thursday's game against the Yankees, stating that while Pereira was "banged up," he was "in good spirits and doing OK." The 25-year-old center fielder had recently returned to action earlier this month following a six-week absence due to a pectoral strain. At the time of his injury, Pereira was hitting .232 with three home runs and seven RBIs across 21 games.
To address the roster gap created by Pereira's absence, the White Sox recalled outfielder Junior Perez from Triple-A Charlotte and inserted him into the lineup in left field. Perez, acquired from the Athletics on May 16, had been hitting .230 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 20 games for Charlotte. With his call-up, Perez became the 13th player to debut for the White Sox this season, matching the MLB record for most debuts before the All-Star break set by the 1944 Cincinnati Reds.

Why This Matters
Pereira's concussion highlights the physical risks players face in baseball and demonstrates how a single collision can disrupt a team's roster during a competitive season. The White Sox's unprecedented number of debuts—matching the 1944 Reds' record—reflects ongoing roster instability that could affect their ability to compete effectively for the remainder of the season.
