India wins gold and silver in shooting on Day 6 of Asian Games

India secured two medals in shooting on September 25 at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event with a score of 484.6 points, edging South Korea's 478.0 points and Iran's 415.8 points. In the men's 50m rifle three positions team event, the Indian team of APS Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar secured silver with 1762 points, behind China's 1766 points and ahead of South Korea's 1751 points.

The shooting medals came within minutes of each other early in the day. Suruchi Inder Singh, a 20-year-old from Jhajjar, Haryana, began shooting at age 13 and trains at the Guru Dronacharya Shooting Academy. Kamaljeet, from Sulkha village in Rewari, Haryana, transitioned to shooting after an injury ended his athletics career in 2019. With parental support, he established himself as a competitive shooter over subsequent years.

Beyond shooting, Indian athletes progressed across multiple sports. The men's kabaddi team defeated Thailand 66-27 in their semifinal to advance to the final. The women's kabaddi team also reached the final after defeating Nepal in their semifinal. In table tennis mixed doubles, Diya Chitale and Manush Shah advanced to the semifinals by defeating Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem in the quarterfinals. In squash, Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured a medal with a mixed doubles quarterfinal victory over the Philippines. Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh both reached the women's and men's singles semifinals respectively.

The Indian women's hockey team defeated Japan 3-1 in their Pool B match. In badminton, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila defeated Malaysia's world-ranked 10th pair of Soo Huat Goh and Jemie Shiyon Lai in mixed doubles. However, defending Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were eliminated in the men's doubles first round by Thailand's Pakkapon Teeraratsakul and Peeratchai Sukphun.

Other Indian athletes competed across swimming, fencing, equestrian, canoe sprint, and athletics. Sajan Prakash qualified for the men's 200m butterfly final, finishing third in his heat. The day reflected India's broad participation across sports at the Games, with the two shooting medals placing India in 12th position in the overall medal tally with 19 total medals including 2 gold.
