Bobby Witt Jr. exits Royals game with right knee discomfort following sliding play

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. left Thursday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals with right knee discomfort after making a defensive play in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Witt slid to his knees to prevent Jordan Walker's potential RBI single from reaching the outfield. After being examined by Royals medical staff, Witt remained in the game through the end of the inning but was unable to bat in the bottom of the fourth, with Tyler Tolbert pinch-hitting in his place.

Witt had been performing well before the injury sidelined him. The two-time All-Star went 2 for 2 at the plate before departing, including a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI single in the second inning, also scoring two runs during the game.
