Entergy New Orleans Completes Major Grid Upgrades in Algiers

Entergy New Orleans has made significant progress on a major infrastructure project to upgrade the electric grid in the Tall Timbers and Park Timbers neighborhoods of Algiers. The initiative, which began in fall 2025 with simultaneous design and construction phases, involves replacing aging underground cables and associated infrastructure to improve the reliability of electrical service for the community. By early 2026, approximately 40% of the scheduled underground replacements had been completed, and the full project is on track to finish by the end of the year.

The upgrades are aimed at reducing the frequency and duration of power outages, strengthening the overall electric system, and ensuring continued reliable service for residents. Crews have employed construction techniques that minimize soil disturbance and limit disruption to nearby properties, such as targeted digging methods. The work underscores Entergy New Orleans' commitment to modernizing infrastructure and enhancing the energy future for the communities it serves.

Jessica Neveu, reliability manager at Entergy New Orleans, highlighted the project's goal, stating, “We’re replacing the underground primary cable that serves Tall Timbers and Park Timbers with new infrastructure that will significantly improve reliability for customers in these neighborhoods. These investments help reduce outages, strengthen our electric system, and ensure we can continue providing reliable service to our customers.” The remainder of the work will proceed through 2026, with final completion expected by year's end.
