Meta Launches Muse Wonder Frontier AI Models to Compete with OpenAI, Anthropic
Meta launched Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full on October 12, 2026, frontier AI models designed for personal and professional agents with advanced memory and focus capabilities. The release represents Meta's most capable models to date and aims to strengthen its competitive position against OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI race.
Quick Facts
- Launched Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full AI models
- Introduced Active Memory feature for context retention across conversations
- Introduced Active Focus feature for sustained task completion
- Made models available through Meta Model API and Muse Code
- Completed 14-month overhaul of AI strategy

Meta released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full on October 12, 2026, marking the company's first frontier AI model launch. Built on Meta's existing research foundations, the models are designed for personal and professional agent tasks, with capabilities spanning law, finance, health, and software coding. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the models represent a major milestone in Meta's push toward "personal superintelligence," following a 14-month overhaul of the company's AI strategy that began in August 2025.
The Muse Wonder series introduces two core features: Active Memory, which retains user context across conversations over extended periods, and Active Focus, which sustains effort on complex tasks by trying alternative approaches, recovering from errors, and requesting clarification before taking important actions. Meta claims the models achieve state-of-the-art performance on benchmark tests compared to comparable systems from Anthropic (Claude Opus 5.5, Fable 5.1) and OpenAI (GPT-6 Astra), particularly on memory, domain expertise, and coding tasks. The models were trained at Meta's Prometheus data center in central Ohio.
Availability differs by version and use case. Muse Wonder is available immediately through the Meta Model API at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, and through Muse Code. Muse Wonder Full is restricted to Muse Code subscribers and is not available via API. Both models will power Meta's Muse personal AI agent, with rollout to Muse subscribers beginning soon. Meta incorporated safety measures aligned with its Superintelligence Scaling Framework, including protections against private information disclosure, harmful misuse, and cyber attacks.
Zuckerberg emphasized Meta's continued investment in AI development and rejected calls for industry slowdowns, stating the company is "already working on the next step up" and development would "probably feel like it'll go quite a bit faster from here." Meta's stock rose approximately 4–10 percent following the announcement. The company frames its AI strategy around personal agent use cases and consumer empowerment, distinguishing it from competitors' focus on knowledge work automation and AGI development.
Why This Matters
Meta has released two frontier AI models that claim state-of-the-art performance on memory, domain expertise, and coding benchmarks. Developers and enterprise customers can access Muse Wonder via API at defined pricing ($4/$20 per million tokens); Muse Wonder Full is restricted to Muse Code subscribers. Meta's stock moved 4–10% on the announcement. The models are designed for agent-based personal and professional use cases spanning law, finance, health, and software coding—a market segment shared with OpenAI and Anthropic offerings.
