Joao Pedro Sidelined for Chelsea vs. Brentford with Knee Injury

Chelsea will face Brentford in the Premier League on Friday night without star striker Joao Pedro, who has been ruled out due to a knee injury sustained during the club's 2–2 draw with Hull City. Pedro, who has scored three goals and provided three assists in four Premier League matches this season, was withdrawn from Brazil's squad for the upcoming international break. Manager Xabi Alonso, while refusing to officially rule out any player before the match, ultimately confirmed Pedro's absence, with the striker not included in Chelsea's matchday squad.

According to ESPN Brasil, Pedro is dealing with a bone edema on his knee caused by a sprained ACL ligament, which occurred during the Hull City match when he played the full 90 minutes. The injury is expected to sideline him for approximately three-and-a-half weeks. The timing of the injury coincides with a three-week international break, after which Chelsea resume play with a home fixture against Bournemouth on October 10, providing a potential window for Pedro's recovery.

Danny Welbeck will lead Chelsea's attack in Pedro's absence as the Blues attempt to end a two-game winless run. The match comes at a challenging time for Chelsea, who are managing multiple injuries. Captain Reece James also missed the Brentford fixture after missing training; England manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed James was not called up to the national squad due to injury. Midfielder Moisés Caicedo, defender Marco Palestra, and forward Emmanuel Emegha are also unavailable through injury. Chelsea are sixth in the Premier League, one point ahead of Brentford in seventh place.
