Real Madrid beats Leipzig 4-1, sets Champions League consecutive-goal record

Real Madrid defeated RB Leipzig 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday in the Champions League group stage, extending their record to 45 consecutive matches with at least one goal in European competition. José Mourinho's side secured their third consecutive victory in the competition with goals from Bernardo Silva, Arda Güler, Kylian Mbappé, and Yan Diomande, while Tidiam Gomis scored the consolation for Leipzig.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the 44th minute with his first goal for Real Madrid since joining from Manchester City in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese midfielder converted from close range after a rebound from Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt's save on Arda Güler's shot. The goal marked a historic milestone: Real Madrid became the first team in Champions League history to score in 45 consecutive matches, surpassing their previous record of 44 consecutive matches between September 2011 and October 2018.

Arda Güler doubled the lead in the 52nd minute following a cross from Jude Bellingham, capitalizing on a loose ball after Mbappé's header. Mbappé extended the advantage to 3-0 with a curling effort from outside the box, before Gomis reduced the deficit to 3-1 for Leipzig. Yan Diomande, who replaced Vinicius Junior late in the match, sealed the victory with a spectacular volley into the top corner in the 87th minute. The win marked Real Madrid's fourth consecutive victory across all competitions and maintained their perfect record at home in the Bernabéu.

Vinicius Junior, returning from a four-match domestic suspension, had a subdued performance and was substituted in the 65th minute. Real Madrid now sits level on nine points with PSG, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Betis at the top of the league phase standings. The club faces Barcelona in La Liga's El Clásico on Sunday, while Leipzig, currently 29th in the Champions League standings, next faces Elversberg in the Bundesliga.
