Dr. Myasnikov warns pulmonary embolism can cause instant death

Physician and TV host Alexander Myasnikov has issued a stark warning about pulmonary embolism, a condition in which a blood clot from the deep veins of the legs travels to the lungs and blocks a pulmonary artery or its branches. During an episode of the program "O Samom Glavnom" on the Russia TV channel, Myasnikov said that missing the signs of a pulmonary embolism could lead to death within seconds.

"If you miss a pulmonary embolism, you can die in seconds," Myasnikov cautioned. He explained that the condition is caused by a thrombus that detaches from the walls of the lower extremity veins and lodges in the lungs. The episode is available for viewing on the online platform "Smotrim."

According to the doctor, the key symptoms to watch for include sudden shortness of breath, swelling of one leg, and coughing up blood in the absence of other lung problems. Myasnikov stressed that immediate administration of blood-thinning medications is critical to save the patient's life.

Pulmonary embolism is a medical emergency that can be rapidly fatal if not treated promptly. The doctor urged viewers to remain vigilant for these warning signs and to seek urgent medical care if they appear. Earlier, Myasnikov has also offered advice to men with high blood pressure and hypertension, recommending treatment for sleep-disordered breathing.
