British comedian and actor Russell Brand was found guilty on November 5, 2026, of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault following a trial at Southwark Crown Court in London. Brand was convicted of raping a 21-year-old woman in 2009 after meeting her at one of his comedy shows at the Hammersmith Apollo; she alleged he forced her into anal sex at his Hampstead home despite her objections. He was also found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman by grabbing her breasts at a Soho bar in 2004, pushing another woman against a wall and forcibly kissing her at Capital Radio in the mid-2000s, and placing his face in the groin of a woman working on a Channel 4 project in 2009 after colleagues instructed her to give him a massage.
Judge Joel Bennathan remanded Brand, 51, in custody and stated the conviction would "inevitably" result in "a significant custodial term." Sentencing is scheduled for November 9, 2026. The Metropolitan Police confirmed ongoing investigations into two additional rape allegations and stated they anticipate more victims may come forward. Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said he "wouldn't be surprised if many, many more come forward."
Brand, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s as a stand-up comedian and television and radio presenter, including a BBC Radio 2 show, later appeared in Hollywood films and has in recent years shifted to online content combining wellness, religious commentary, and other topics. He was previously married to pop star Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012 and is currently married to Laura Gallacher.
