The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel officially revealed by Bethesda at 40th anniversary

Bethesda Game Studios officially confirmed on November 3, 2026, that the next mainline Elder Scrolls game will be titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The announcement came during a video marking Bethesda's 40th anniversary, with creative director Todd Howard presenting the reveal at the video's conclusion. An official logo was also unveiled. The confirmation follows months of speculation among fans and a leaked hint from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in August, who posted about viewing the game with eight asterisks replacing the subtitle—matching Sentinel's letter count.

Sentinel is a major city in Hammerfell, a province in the Elder Scrolls universe located in southwestern Tamriel. The game will explore the history and origins of the Elder Scrolls themselves, the franchise's central mystical artifacts. A teaser quote attributed to a Moth Priest character suggests the game takes place at least five years after the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011). Hammerfell has appeared previously in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online, and is historically the homeland of the Redguard people.

No release date was announced, with Todd Howard indicating the project remains years away from completion. This represents the first substantial update on The Elder Scrolls VI since its announcement at E3 2018—a gap of over eight years. Howard previously stated he regretted announcing the game so early. The Xbox Wire press release containing the announcement included only the logo image, with Bethesda providing no additional gameplay footage, trailer, or timeline details. Questions remain about platform exclusivity, particularly whether the title will release on PlayStation given Xbox's recent emphasis on console exclusives.
