Nashville SC clinched the 2026 MLS Supporters' Shield on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over CF Montréal at Stade Saputo, claiming the trophy for the first time in club history. Sam Surridge scored in the 52nd minute, finishing his own rebound after his header was parried by Montréal goalkeeper Samsy Keita. Hany Mukhtar added the second goal in the 76th minute following a defensive error, intercepting a misplayed pass and converting from close range.
With 70 points from 31 matches, Nashville has an unassailable lead with three regular-season games remaining. The victory extended their unbeaten streak to seven consecutive games (5-0-2). Goalkeeper Brian Schwake made six saves to record his 14th shutout of the season, a club record. Surridge now has 18 goals for the season, while Mukhtar has 17, with the latter scoring seven goals in his last six matches.
The win secures home-field advantage for Nashville throughout the MLS Cup playoffs and a spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. Nashville has the best 31-match start in MLS history and leads the league in wins (21), fewest goals conceded (23), and goal differential (plus-43). Head coach BJ Callaghan has now set an MLS record with 40 wins through 74 matches coached. Nashville remains four points shy of Miami's MLS single-season points record of 74, set in 2024.
The result eliminates Montréal from playoff contention. Montréal (6-18-7, 25 points) made 10 lineup changes following a Canadian Championship final loss to Forge FC on Wednesday in a penalty shootout. The 17-year-old homegrown goalkeeper Keita made his MLS debut and became the youngest player to start a game in franchise history. Montréal has won just one of its last 11 games (1-8-2).
Nashville entered MLS as an expansion team in 2020 and won its first trophy, the US Open Cup, in 2025. Head coach Callaghan is the first coach since Oscar Pareja in 2016 to win both the US Open Cup and Supporters' Shield within a two-year span. The team is unbeaten at home in 2026 and tied the league record for home wins (14) and home winning streak (10).
