The Los Angeles Angels placed 11-time All-Star outfielder Mike Trout on the 10-day injured list before Thursday night's game against the Oakland Athletics due to a right hamstring strain. The 34-year-old had been enjoying a resurgent season, appearing in 74 of 75 games played by the team through that point.
Trout arrived at Thursday leading the American League with 54 runs scored, tied for second in Major League Baseball behind Washington's James Wood. His 66 walks also ranked second in the majors, trailing only Oakland's Nick Kurtz. The veteran was batting .234 with an .866 OPS, 17 home runs, 36 RBIs, and seven stolen bases on the season. He recently received the second-highest vote total among all American League outfielders in All-Star Game voting results released this week.
The injury marked another setback for Trout, whose career has been significantly impacted by injuries over the past six years. Since winning his third American League MVP award in 2019, he has played more than 82 games in a season only twice: 119 games in 2022 and 130 games in 2025.
To fill the roster spot, the Angels recalled infielder Christian Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake. Moore was batting .333 with a .468 on-base percentage, nine home runs, 45 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases across 51 games at Salt Lake, playing second base, third base, and the outfield. The Angels also made additional roster moves, recalling right-hander Ryan Johnson from Double-A Rocket City, releasing left-hander Drew Pomeranz, and sending right-hander Brett Kerry and catcher Logan Porter to Salt Lake.

Why This Matters
Mike Trout's injury represents a critical setback for the Angels' championship aspirations and raises concerns about his durability. At 34, a right hamstring strain could have long-term implications for his elite performance. Trout was in an MVP-caliber season with league-leading 54 runs scored and the second-most walks in baseball, making his absence a significant blow to the team's offensive firepower and playoff hopes.
