Egypt Releases 2026 General Secondary School Exam Specifications Across All Subjects

Egypt's Ministry of Education and Technical Education has officially published comprehensive specifications for the 2026 general secondary school exams covering all subjects taught at the secondary level. The specifications were developed by the National Center for Examinations and Educational Assessment in collaboration with curriculum experts and specialists, and have been approved by the Deputy Minister of Education for Examinations and Educational Assessment.

The exam specifications establish detailed guidelines for constructing examination papers, including question formats, grading distribution, and the balance between essay and objective questions. The framework is designed to measure student learning outcomes accurately while ensuring fairness and transparency in assessment. Key principles outlined in the specifications include adherence to curriculum learning outcomes, diversity in question types suited to each subject, consideration of individual differences among students, balanced distribution of grades across different thinking levels, and compliance with technical standards for exam paper preparation.

The specifications cover a comprehensive range of subjects across multiple disciplines: languages (Arabic, Islamic and Christian religious education, and foreign languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese); sciences and mathematics (physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics); social studies (history and geography); humanities (philosophy, logic, psychology, and sociology); and technical and artistic fields (information technology, fine arts, music, industrial and agricultural technology, and home economics). These specifications serve as an essential reference for both students and teachers, enabling them to understand the final exam format, anticipate question types, practice with exam models, and prepare more effectively for the examinations.

The National Center for Examinations' exam development department worked with specialists including Amima Riyad Al-Sadek, Mohamed Gamal El-Din Mohamed, Mona Ibrahim Al-Laboudy, and Mahmoud Fouad Mohamed Abu El-Ainin to establish these standards. The specifications aim to create unified criteria for exam preparation across all subjects, ensuring equitable treatment of students and consistent application of assessment principles throughout the secondary education system.
