Renesas Acquires U.S. Startup Pictura to Boost Semiconductor Design Software

Renesas Electronics announced on June 18, 2026, the acquisition of Pictura, a U.S.-based startup specializing in semiconductor design software, as part of its strategy to strengthen software capabilities alongside its core chip business. The acquisition amount was not disclosed. Pictura, founded in 2022, develops tools that automate the generation of semiconductor control software and simulate chip operations. By integrating Pictura's technology, Renesas aims to enhance its cloud-based design and verification platform, Renesas 365, which was launched in March 2026. This move follows Renesas' acquisition of Altium in August 2024 for approximately 900 billion yen, which elevated software development to a strategic business area. The company continues to expand its software portfolio to provide comprehensive solutions for electronic device design and verification.
