Colombia confirmed its status as tournament favourite with a dominant 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage at the Azteca Stadium. The South American side controlled the match from start to finish, maintaining superior possession and creating more consistent scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.

Daniel Muñoz opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a clinical finish after receiving a precise pass from Luis Díaz. The first half remained largely composed, with Colombia dictating play but finding opportunities limited until Muñoz's breakthrough. Uzbekistan mounted a response in the second half and equalised in the 61st minute when Abbos Fayzullaev headed home following a well-worked move down the left flank.

Colombia's response was swift and decisive. Luis Díaz restored the lead just five minutes later with a well-placed right-footed shot, capping an influential performance that included both a goal and an assist. Jaminton Campaz sealed the victory deep into stoppage time, rising unmarked at the far post to head home a cross from Cucho Hernández. Although Uzbekistan created late chances with Mozgovoy and Karimov testing the Colombian defence, the final whistle confirmed a deserved Colombian triumph that reflected their superior performance across the match.
