The Telangana government has approved a 1.62% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees of state electricity companies, effective from January 1, 2026. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced the decision during a high-level review meeting at the Vidyut Soudha in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The DA will rise from 17.651% to 19.272%, benefiting approximately 70,804 staff members, artisans, and pensioners across the sector.
The hike is expected to add an additional monthly burden of about ₹9.35 crore to the state's exchequer. The meeting was attended by senior officials including Energy Special Chief Secretary Naveen Mittal, Finance Special Chief Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, and heads of various power utilities such as Singareni CMD Jyoti Buddhaprakash, Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar, and Genco CMD Harish.
During the review, Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka emphasized the need to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the monsoon season. He instructed officials to promptly address any disruptions caused by heavy rains or storms. Additionally, he outlined plans for robust infrastructure development to meet the projected peak demand of 34,137 megawatts by 2035-36—nearly double the peak demand of 18,548 megawatts recorded this year.
Why This Matters
This DA hike directly affects 70,804 electricity sector employees and pensioners in Telangana, with a 1.62% increase that raises their take-home pay starting January 1, 2026. The additional monthly cost of ₹9.35 crore signals the government's commitment to retaining talent in the power sector while pursuing ambitious infrastructure upgrades to nearly double peak capacity by 2035-36. For residents, this suggests improved power reliability, especially during monsoon seasons when disruptions are common.
