Tamil Nadu CM Vijay's son Jason Sanjay debuts as director with Sigma

Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and actor, has released his directorial debut 'Sigma' in theatres on October 2, 2026. The heist film, produced by Lyca Productions, stars Sandeep Kishan as Guru, a treasure hunter and radio host who assembles a crew to target a ₹500 crore criminal racket controlled by Kotlapadi Veeraiya Reddy (played by Sampath Raj). The cast also includes Faria Abdullah as Sam, Raju Sundaram, Shiv Panditt, Anbu Thasan and Yog Japee. The film releases across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.

Jason Sanjay's mother Sangeetha and sister Divya Vijay attended the premiere screening in Chennai. In interviews ahead of the release, Jason Sanjay expressed mixed emotions about the film's launch, describing himself as both excited and anxious. He stated his confidence that the team had fulfilled audience expectations and created entertaining content. Jason noted that his father CM Vijay, who has spent three decades in the film industry, was the first family member to support his career choice in cinema. However, Vijay has been kept entirely out of promotional activities at Jason's request, to ensure focus remains on the film rather than on his political position.

When asked about his father's likely reaction, Jason Sanjay described Vijay as someone who takes considerable time to process and form opinions. "My dad is usually a quiet person. He takes his time," Jason explained, noting he expects his father will ultimately be proud of the film after reflection. CM Vijay launched a women's free bus travel scheme on the morning of the film's release and proceeded to a campaign event, with no public announcement of when he would view 'Sigma'.

Notable Tamil and Telugu actors including Suriya, Karthi, Jyotika and Shibi Satyaraj publicly endorsed the project on social media ahead of release. Suriya expressed disbelief that Jason Sanjay, whom he had known since childhood, was now a director. Karthi praised Jason's choice to pursue cinema and wished him success. Music was composed by S Thaman, cinematography by Krishnan Vasant, editing by Praveen KL and visual effects by Hariharasuthan.
