Haas F1 Team officially announced on October 15, 2026, the signing of 21-year-old Brazilian driver Rafael Camara on a multi-year contract for the 2027 season. Camara will replace Esteban Ocon, whose departure from the team at the end of 2026 was confirmed in September. The Ferrari Driver Academy member, who currently leads the FIA Formula 2 championship in his rookie season, will race alongside Oliver Bearman, also a Ferrari Academy graduate, creating one of Formula 1's youngest driver lineups with a combined age of 42.
Camara impressed during testing of Haas's 2025 car at Portugal's Portimao circuit in August, part of a selection process that included other candidates such as Jack Doohan, Ryo Hirakawa, and Leonardo Fornaroli. Team principal Ayao Komatsu highlighted Camara's performance in challenging qualifying sessions this season—notably Monaco and Montreal—and praised his adaptability during the test program, stating that Camara demonstrated "more than just raw speed" and "managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself."
Camara has shown rapid progression through junior categories. He won the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA) and the 2025 Formula 3 championship. If he claims the 2026 Formula 2 title with two rounds remaining, he would become the first driver to win three consecutive championships in three consecutive years across these three categories. Camara currently leads the F2 standings by 7 points over Red Bull-backed Nikola Tsolov.
Team owner Gene Haas expressed confidence in Camara's potential based on Oliver Bearman's success as a Ferrari Academy graduate, noting that "these younger drivers are well prepared and they can make an immediate impact on a team." Camara thanked Haas, Komatsu, the Ferrari Driver Academy, and his family in a statement, confirming his focus on preparation for the 2027 campaign. He is expected to participate in multiple free practice sessions in the remainder of the 2026 season, including the São Paulo Grand Prix in early November.
With Camara's confirmation, Haas becomes the first team to finalize its complete 2027 driver lineup. Racing Bulls remains the only team with unconfirmed seats for next season.

Why This Matters
Haas becomes the first F1 team to finalize its complete 2027 driver lineup, with a pairing averaging 21 years old. Camara's promotion from Formula 2 (where he leads the championship) into an F1 seat reflects the accelerated junior-to-senior pathway for Ferrari Academy graduates. The move affects team preparation timelines, reserve/test driver scheduling for the 2026 season, and competitive positioning ahead of 2027 regulation stability. Confirmation of Camara removes one of the final unresolved driver-market variables.
