Flamengo visits Bahia seeking win to reclaim league lead

Flamengo, currently leading Brazil's Campeonato Brasileiro with 64 points, travels to Salvador to face fifth-placed Bahia on October 18, 2026, in the 31st round. The match kicks off at 18:30 (Brasília time) at Arena Fonte Nova and will be broadcast on Premiere. Flamengo holds a one-point advantage over second-placed Palmeiras and a victory would restore their lead after Palmeiras recently moved to the top of the standings.

The Rubro-Negro return midfielder Jorginho after serving a suspension but face five player absences for the fixture. Arrascaeta and Danilo are sidelined due to fractures (punho esquerdo and mandíbula respectively) requiring extended recovery, with Danilo potentially out until 2027. Ayrton Lucas and Evertton Araújo remain in transition phases following previous injuries, while Saúl is unavailable due to pain in his left knee following the Copa Libertadores semifinal match against Estudiantes. Coach Leonardo Jardim has adjusted the lineup, with Varela and Carrascal entering for absent players. The probable Flamengo starting eleven is: Rossi; Varela, Léo Ortiz, Léo Pereira and Alex Sandro; Pulgar, Jorginho and Paquetá (or Carrascal); Carrascal (or Paquetá), Pedro and Lino.

Bahia arrives in good form following a victory over Mirassol that elevated them to fifth place with 49 points. The Tricolor are undefeated in eight home matches, including three consecutive victories at Arena Fonte Nova, and seek to close the gap to the direct Copa Libertadores qualification zone. Coach Rogério Ceni welcomes back midfielder Acevedo from suspension. Bahia's probable lineup includes: Ronaldo; Marcos Victor (or Roman Gomez), David Duarte, Marco Moreno and Luciano Juba; Acevedo, Jean Lucas and Rodrigo Nestor; Kike Olivera, Erick Pulga and Alejo Veliz.

Flamengo has won 10 consecutive matches without defeat and faces a demanding schedule ahead, including the Copa Libertadores semifinal return leg against Estudiantes and matches against Atlético-MG, Vasco, Grêmio, Athletico, and Palmeiras. Referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio (GO) will officiate the match, with VAR support from Pablo Ramon Gonçalves Pinheiro (RN).
