The acclaimed musical adaptation of David Nicholls' bestselling novel One Day is set to premiere in London's West End at the Garrick Theatre on 17 November 2026. The production, which follows a critically successful world premiere at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh earlier this year, will feature Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose reprising their celebrated roles as Dexter and Emma. The musical has been adapted by David Greig, former Artistic Director of the Royal Lyceum, with music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of the American band Johnnyswim, additional material by Jeremy Sams, and direction by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Max Webster.
The story follows Emma and Dexter across two decades after they meet on the night of their university graduation. Their interconnected lives are marked by joy and heartbreak, missed opportunities and second chances, as they navigate love, ambition, and the unpredictable turns of life. The novel, which has sold over five million copies worldwide and spawned film and television adaptations, is being brought to the stage with a fresh and emotionally rich interpretation supported by an original score.
The creative team includes choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, set and costume design by Rae Smith, lighting design by Bruno Poet, sound design by Simon Baker, orchestrations and co-arrangements by Simon Hale, and casting direction by Stuart Burt CDG. The production is led by Melting Pot producers Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska, in association with numerous co-producers including Joshua Andrews, Kevin McCollum, and Stuart McAlpine. Muscato brings extensive West End experience from productions including Cabaret, The Great Gatsby, and Moulin Rouge!, while Rose is recognized for her performances in Sylvia and Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton.
Producers Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska expressed their enthusiasm for the adaptation, noting the novel's universal emotional resonance. "This is a story for anyone who has been in love, for anyone whose life hasn't gone to plan... With a remarkable creative team, a score that takes us on the emotional rollercoaster of Emma and Dexter's journey, and the world-class talents of Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose originating the lead roles, One Day The Musical promises to be a very special show indeed," they stated. Tickets are now on sale for the West End run.
