During the commissioning of the Water Supply Network to Karu Satellite Town on Monday, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, attributed the success of infrastructure projects across Abuja to President Bola Tinubu's direct support and commitment. The event, which marked Tinubu's third year anniversary as president, was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima representing the president.
Wike explained that following the commissioning of the Abuja Greater Water Supply project during Tinubu's second year anniversary, the president directed the expansion of water supply infrastructure from the city center to satellite towns. He noted that the 2025 national budget included provisions for water supply to satellite towns in AMAC, Karu, and neighboring communities, as well as in Bwari Area Council, effectively covering two area councils.
The minister emphasized the speed of project execution, highlighting that the Karu water supply contract was awarded in August 2025 and fully commissioned in June 2026—less than one year later. He credited this rapid completion to the president's directive for the full and early release of budgeted funds. Wike stated that without Tinubu's support, such swift delivery would not have been possible. He also announced that a similar water supply project in Bwari Area Council would be commissioned on July 14, 2026.
Wike underscored the importance of providing essential services like water to satellite town residents, noting that the projects represented a comprehensive approach to infrastructure development beyond roads and urban amenities. He expressed confidence that the communities would appreciate these developments as part of the administration's Renewed Hope Agenda.
Why This Matters
This project demonstrates how political commitment and timely budget allocation can accelerate infrastructure delivery in developing regions. For residents of Abuja's satellite towns, reliable water supply directly improves health outcomes, reduces waterborne disease risk, and enhances quality of life. The rapid execution timeline—less than one year from contract award to commissioning—sets a benchmark for public project efficiency and shows potential for replication across other essential services.
