England have announced a 15-player squad for their one-off Test against India, scheduled to begin on July 10 at Lord's Cricket Ground. The match will be the first women's Test ever played at the iconic venue, marking a significant milestone for the sport. Nat Sciver-Brunt has been appointed captain for the historic encounter, despite managing a calf injury sustained during T20 World Cup duty. The squad includes five uncapped players, with several seasoned campaigners also named.
The uncapped players in the squad are Alice Capsey, Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Mady Villiers, Grace Potts, and Ellie Threlkeld. Capsey, who has represented England in 89 limited-overs internationals, is expected to make her Test debut. The squad also features experienced players such as Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight, and Sophie Ecclestone. Notably, Sophia Dunkley, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, and Ryana MacDonald-Gay have been omitted despite featuring in England's most recent Test against Australia.
Clare Connor, the ECB's managing director of women's cricket, expressed confidence in the team and the significance of the occasion. "We have selected a strong Test squad under the leadership of Nat Sciver-Brunt for what will be another historic few days at Lord's for women's cricket," Connor said. "Test cricket is a rare and wonderfully challenging experience in the women's game and I know how proud our players are to represent England in this format. For the 11 women who will get the chance to be the first to enjoy that feeling at Lord's, it will be a moment to savour."
The four-day Test will begin just four days after the conclusion of the Women's T20 World Cup. India last played a women's Test in England in June 2021, which ended in a draw in Bristol. England's most recent Test was against Australia in the Ashes in January 2025, where they lost at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
