US President Donald Trump announced on October 10, 2026, that he had struck a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply diesel fuel to the United States and global markets. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump expressed gratitude to Putin, describing the arrangement as "a big deal" involving "massive amounts of oil" entering the country. Trump emphasized that diesel fuel is "what we need" and that the supply would benefit both the US and global markets.

Trump stated that oil prices were already declining as a result of the agreement, saying "oil prices are already dropping like a rock." He reiterated his satisfaction with the arrangement, saying "We're very happy to get it." The deal was confirmed through a post on Trump's Truth Social account, establishing its official nature.

The announcement came approximately three weeks after Trump had signed legislation creating conditions for new US sanctions and tariffs on countries importing Russian oil and gas, according to reporting on the matter. The shift in policy represents a notable change in the US approach to Russian energy imports.
