Mike Myers Fuels 'Austin Powers 4' Hopes During World Cup Watch Party

Mike Myers has reignited speculation about a potential fourth installment of the 'Austin Powers' franchise, briefly confirming its possibility during a live appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party. When a fan asked if fans would ever see 'Austin Powers 4,' Myers quickly replied, “Yes,” but offered no further details. The comment came shortly after the release of a Verizon commercial featuring Myers reprising his role as Dr. Evil, alongside franchise cast members including Rob Lowe (Number 2), Seth Green (Scott Evil), and Mindy Sterling (Frau Farbissina).

Myers and filmmaker Jay Roach, who directed the original trilogy, have previously hinted at a sequel, though no concrete plans have been announced. The last film, 'Austin Powers in Goldmember,' was released in 2002. Key cast members from the series have expressed optimism about a reunion. Michael York, who played Basil Exposition in all three films, said, “I hear about that all the time... And I hope it’s true because that [franchise] really works.” Clint Howard, who appeared as the radar operator, also voiced his eagerness, stating, “I would step up and show up immediately.” He noted that the death of Verne Troyer (Mini-Me) in 2018 may have previously stalled plans, recalling that Myers reportedly said he would not continue without Troyer. However, Howard suggested, “Maybe time heals that wound.”

Myers has discussed sequel ideas in the past. In 2007, he mentioned a “fully conceived idea” for 'Austin Powers 4' centered on Dr. Evil’s perspective. More recently, in 2024, he told Entertainment Tonight that the franchise “absolutely” has more story to tell. The original trilogy was a commercial success, with the first film earning $67 million globally and its sequels surpassing $300 million each. The potential revival comes amid a broader search for successful theatrical comedies, with studios like Sony attempting to revive franchises such as '21 Jump Street.' Despite the enthusiasm, there is still no official greenlight from New Line Cinema for a fourth film.
