Tottenham Pursue Unusual Double Deal for German U21 Star Said El Mala and His Brother

Tottenham Hotspur are exploring an unconventional double transfer to secure German under-21 international Said El Mala from Cologne, with the club reportedly open to signing his older brother, Malek, as part of the deal.

The 19-year-old winger has emerged as one of the Bundesliga's brightest prospects, netting 13 goals and providing five assists for Cologne last season, earning him a call-up to the German senior squad. His performances have attracted interest from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, but Tottenham hope a unique approach will give them an edge.

According to reports, El Mala's representatives—his parents—are demanding that any interested club also sign his 21-year-old brother, Malek, who has yet to make a first-team appearance for Cologne. This condition is believed to have deterred other suitors, including Brentford, who reportedly ended their pursuit over the complication.

Despite the unusual request, Tottenham are pushing ahead with negotiations. The club has already made progress in strengthening their squad this summer, having secured deals for defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, with an agreement in place for Jan Paul van Hecke. Cologne value Said El Mala at around €40 million (£34.5 million), and Tottenham are confident they can reach a fee in that region.

While most clubs have little interest in Malek, who has not developed at the same pace as his younger brother, Tottenham are prepared to compromise to land their primary target. The Lilywhites, who finished 17th in the Premier League for the past two seasons, are looking to rebuild their attack after overhauling the defence.
