Lieutenant General Widi Prasetijono, former commander of Indonesia's Diponegoro Military Command and former presidential aide to Joko Widodo, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by military prosecutors for corruption related to a state-owned land transaction in Cilacap, Central Java. Prosecutors alleged on 22 October 2026 at Jakarta's High Military Court that the transaction caused Rp237 billion in state losses.
The case centres on the sale of 716.2 hectares of plantation land in Caruy, Cipari District, by the state foundation PT Rumpun Sari Antan (PT RSA) to the regional state enterprise PT Cilacap Segara Artha (CSA), valued at Rp237.94 billion. Prosecutors alleged Widi orchestrated the transaction while serving as Kodam IV/Diponegoro commander and foundation chair, and that he received Rp21 billion in gratification fees. Three co-defendants were charged: Colonel Wisnu Kurniawan (former Assistant for Planning), Colonel Sjaiful Nursaid (former Legal Chief), and civilian Suko Madyo Susilo (former PT RSA director).
Beyond the 10-year sentence, Widi was ordered to pay a Rp500 million fine (or 140 days imprisonment if unpaid), mandatorily dismissed from the military, and required to pay Rp21.05 billion in state compensation. If compensation is unpaid within one month of final judgment, his assets will be seized and auctioned; if insufficient, he faces an additional five-year sentence. Co-defendants received shorter sentences: Wisnu Kurniawan (4 years, Rp2.76 billion compensation), Sjaiful Nursaid (6 years, Rp3.22 billion compensation), and Suko Madyo Susilo (3 years, Rp1.3 billion compensation).
Prosecutors cited aggravating factors against Widi, including his denial of wrongdoing, failure to set a proper example to subordinates, lack of support for anti-corruption efforts, and unwillingness to return state losses. His 33 years of military service was noted as a mitigating factor. Widi has denied the charges, stating no state land was sold in the transaction. The case alleges violations of Indonesia's Anti-Corruption Law and Criminal Code provisions on joint criminal conduct.
Why This Matters
A former high-ranking Indonesian military commander and presidential aide has been convicted of corruption tied to a large state asset sale. The judgment includes mandatory military dismissal, substantial fines, and compensation orders totaling over 21 billion rupiah. The outcome affects military accountability standards, government asset management, and the trajectory of Indonesian anti-corruption enforcement in the defense sector.
